Discipleship in Romania | 46651
Sometimes the most effective way to reach people spiritually, is to first meet their needs physically. Living in Romania these past 17 years has given us eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of the forgotten, poverty-stricken, local people. Without access to medical or dental care—and with God’s nudging—we’re seeking to expand our already-established second-hand store with a Dental/Medical Clinic to better focus on building relationships, making disciples, growing Christ’s Church, and showing them God’s faithfulness.
Several years ago, God gave us the opportunity to serve through Business as Mission in the form of a second-hand store. This store is run through a Romanian non-profit association and the proceeds are faithfully given to a specific project. This ministry has been thriving for over eight years to the point we have outgrown our rental facility! We recently expanded into an enjoyable new facility housing an additional store, which has now been open for over one year. We are currently working on the second level which will also house a Dental and Medical Facility – something the Lord has placed on our hearts long ago. The Medical-side of this new endeavor will be a Hospice for Palliative Care – a very new concept for Romania, but something Michelle has had 21 years of work experience in. We are fortunate to also have a Romanian Dentist and a Romanian Medical Doctor as members in our association.
With Michelle’s past involvement in nursing within the Palliative Care unit and Kevin’s experience as a Project Manager, God has equipped us to plan, manage, and run this new facility with excellence. We are excited to see how God will use this new avenue to serve the local people in an innovative way, while also blessing the community with more jobs!
At the store, we have deliberately hired local women from our village to work alongside us rather than women from within the church. Through this, Michelle has been able to speak Truth into them, resulting in each receiving Christ as their Saviour! Every morning, we join hands and pray, and now these ladies are discipling other women in the community. God’s Word is being poured out.
We feel very blessed to be living in Romania during this time. God is mobilizing His church and His people in unspeakable ways to bless our neighbors to the north. We have seen such compassion, sacrifice, and love poured out to overflowing – something that will be remembered for many, many years to come. We continue to use funds raised by churches and individuals in Canada to purchase food and personal hygiene products sent directly into Ukraine.
God is transforming our community through a second-hand store – a place of neutral ground for speaking into the lives of the people. This is an exciting opportunity where some people even come from one-hour distances just to be with us! There’s no denying that this place is special, and we’d love to have you be a part of it. We are currently still raising funds to complete the new facility – would you prayerfully consider donating toward this ministry? Every gift is important for furthering the Gospel!
