Although people in eastern Germany desperately crave community and connection, it is very unlikely that they’ll want to enter a church. During the years of Soviet occupation behind the ‘iron curtain’, the Soviet government tried to stamp out the church. Unfortunately, they were very successful. By the time the wall fell in 1989, eastern Germany had become one of the most atheistic regions in the world. This spiritual darkness continues today.
This is why I feel God calling me to serve in eastern Germany. I will be working in Rostock in northeast Germany – a city where there is very little knowledge about God and very few churches. I’ll be joining two other GEM missionaries in a small church plant that has grown from 8 people to 45 people over the past 8 years. Together, we’ll be running a cafe ministry by using coffee and cake as a bridge to build relationships and trust with locals in the community. I also am passionate about building trust and relationships with non-Christians through sports. When engaging with people through sports, I love looking for opportunities to talk about everything – including the hope I have in Christ. Within the church I will also be helping lead worship, prayer nights and discipling women.
Seeing spiritual fruit in the lives of these people will require long-term commitment. My heartbeat is to help encourage and strengthen community-building and build ‘bridges’ between the church and these people, alongside the other missionaries in the area.
But I can’t do this alone. I am in need of people to partner with me, to be praying for both me and the people I will be serving. And in order to serve full-time, I also need financial partners. Would you prayerfully consider joining me? Your partnership will enable me to reach out to people who desperately need the hope and love of Christ. I would love to have you journey with me in this exciting Kingdom-building work!
