Greece is historically a very Christian country—it’s where the Apostle Paul originally brought the Gospel 2,000 years ago. Today, 95% of Greeks identify as Greek Orthodox. However, the number of devoted followers is closer to 10%, and less than 1% identify as evangelical. The need is great to see people grab hold of their faith—to grab hold of who Christ can be in their lives.
Many young Greeks are searching for answers to their questions and are seeking outside sources to fill the void they feel in their hearts. This issue can be tackled with the help of young, enthusiastic, evangelical Christians; but right now, these believers need support to become the empowered disciple-makers they’re called to be.
This is where my heart comes into play—connecting with young people, both Christian and non-Christian. My hope is to support and encourage them through the love of Christ, and to see them grow in their understanding of the Word of God so that they may grow in their confidence to go out and share it themselves.
Part of youth ministry is being in proximity and being a constant. My heart is committed to this mission of consistency, and I plan to accomplish this with an open home. I want my living space to be a place where young people know they are always welcome and accepted; a space where we break bread together, laugh, cry, celebrate, and commiserate; a place that is comfortable and warm.
I also have a huge heart for the local church. I anticipate working with church plants here in Athens and supporting them further in their vision and mission. I want to see a church that is active and growing, with young people participating. My ministry, Lord willing, will see young people encouraged to radically step out and impact their communities––to see young people take up the call of disciple-making within their own nation!
Having previously worked full-time with Youth with a Mission: Thessaloniki, I’ve developed a solid understanding of ministry, the complexities that come with it, and the context and relationships of the evangelical community here in Greece. I’vealso gained experience in practical applications for ministry work in a church. Now, for the past few years, I’ve been blessed to continue building solid relationships with the young people in the evangelical Churches here in Greece.
I’m ready and desiring to be teachable in what God has for me in ministry.
If you’d like to see more young people become disciple-makers, would you consider supporting me? Through your partnership, you have the opportunity to be a part of young Greeks’ stories and lives. Your gift will also help me be able to further support the local church in giving new believers a church that they can call home—a place they can actively meet with fellow believers and be poured into. Your gift is needed to allow an open space to be created where anyone is welcome to be in community. The gift can go so far to help create that space and make it a blessing to the community of believers and non-believers. Thank you!
