An Historic Opportunity
The Camino de Santiago is a medieval pilgrimage trail that remarkably still attracts over 350,000 pilgrims each year from around the world.
Many of these modern-day pilgrims walk the 800km route through the Spanish heartland in search of spiritual transformation. These seekers come to the trail to escape from their everyday life and connect with a side of themselves that may have lain dormant for decades.
The trail is a tremendous opportunity for Christ’s kingdom. Pilgrim seekers need to encounter the gospel. But all too often they meet only new age prophets peddling false hope—crystals, idols, and relics—you name it.

Ministry to Pilgrims
GEM workers Wes and Sherry Koop live and work along the Camino de Santiago trail, where they lead a small team that operates the Pilgrim’s Oasis Cafe. They welcome weary pilgrims, tend to their physical needs and invite them to join in on daily prayer and bible reading services. Because many of these travellers are also seekers, these encounters are a natural opportunity to engage in discussions about spiritual matters.
Last summer, one of these seekers was a young man from Germany named Bob* who walked the trail during the pandemic and accepted Jesus. The Koops attended his baptism in a nearby river and then continued to disciple him remotely as he completed the remaining three weeks of his journey down the pilgrim’s path. Once he returned to Germany, the Koops continued to work with him through an online Alpha course, and just this spring, this new German believer led his sister to the Lord—as well as a co-worker a month later!

Our Stewardship Policy
Contributions for which official receipts are issued are fully under the control of Greater Europe Mission and, where appropriate, may be reported for income tax purposes. Each gift designated toward an approved program or project, will be used for that program or project unless the program or project cannot be carried out for reasons beyond the control of the Mission. The donor hereby agrees that when any given need or project has been met, or when a program or project cannot be carried out, gifts designated for such purposes will be used where most needed. The Mission strives for financial integrity and fully meets the standards of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities and Missio Nexus. Our financial statement is audited annually and is available upon request.
